* Of the above Burgesses, elected on the 25th February 1780, many had been
" Ousted " by Mandamus of Feb. 1775, of 1777, and of 1780, and were now re-elected; but the fifteen names marked are stated in an entry in May 1780 to have then "relinquished their office or were ousted. For further information on this see the History of the Carter Family. |

The election of thirty-seven Burgesses on August 31st 1782 was the first held after the termination of the political warfare between the Government party and the Whigs, a warfare that had existed for many years ; had led to no less than four Quo Warranto informations being heard in the King's Bench, viz. on l0th Feb. 1714, 13th Feb. 1775, Feb. 12th 1777 and the 28th January 1780 ; and on each occasion caused the names of a large number of Burgesses to be removed from the Burgess Roll.
