The Council of the City of Portsmouth (1974)
The following is transcribed from the Council Year Book (1974-1975). Under the Local Government Act 1972 the post of Alderman was abolished from 1st April 1974. Local Government authority for Portsmouth was partially transferred to Hampshire County Council to which the Portsmouth electorate were entitled to send one Councillor from 13 wards, roughly based on the 16 wards for the City Council. All councillors on the City Council were given a common retirement date of 1976. The results of the elections to Hampshire County Council are not currently available. Details of elections are not recorded in the Year Books.
