The Council of the Borough of Portsmouth (1896)
In 1896 there was a re-organisation of the wards which recognised the population growth in some areas. From this time the wards are no longer based on parishes. On November 1st one third (14) of the Councillors retired and submitted themselves for re-election. 3 Councillors lost their seats. There were no Aldermanic elections. There was an election for Mayor.
