Mr. H Fox of 81 Wykeham Road North End is singing in the Messiah for the 50th time since he joined in 1900. The Portsmouth Glee Club perform Haydn's 'Creation' at the North End Baptist Church. Joe Loss and his Orchestra play on South Parade Pier. The Portsmouth Players perform a musical comedy, The Belle of New York, at the South Parade Pier.

About 1000 jazz fans on the SS Calshot heard six hours of music from ten be-bop and dixielands bands.

July 3rd 1950 - Copnor British have social with entertainment from The Harbour Lights Concert Party, under the direction of Miss Irene Harbour, and MC Mr. Adam. At the Kings Theatre, a musical called Brooklyn Vanities includes Portsmouth girl Vivienne Dale who was previously featured in the Dale Sisters harmony singing act. 'A glamorous and colourful revue' "A date with Eve", opens at the Empire Theatre.

October 2nd 1950 - At the Kings Theatre 'Black and white vanities' include Winifred Atwell.
October 6th 1950 - Harry Gold and his Pieces of Eight play at the Savoy ballroom. Teddy Hanks and his Band play at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road.
October 7th 1950 - The Portsmouth Glee Club give an Operatic Concert at the Wesley Central Hall Fratton. Guest band at the Empress Ballroom, Johnny Lyne and his Music. Dick Whicello's Band play at the Parish Hall Rowlands Castle.
October 10th 1950 - Cyril Rice and his Band play at the Transport Hall North End.
October 11th 1950 - Brian Gorman and his Music play at the South Parade Pier presented by the Loyal Order of Moose in support of the Lord Mayor's BLESMA appeal. Doris Westaway's Band play at the Victory Hall Fratton Road.
October 13th 1950 - Joe Loss at the Savoy Ballroom. Cyril Rice and his Band play at All Saints Church Hall. Teddy Hanks and his Band play at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road.
October 16th 1950 - The Troubadours give a variety concert at Cosham Civic Centre. At the Theatre Royal, Syd Seymour and his Mad Hatters perform.
October 17th 1950 - The Pompey Revellers perform to more than 250 blind folk, for the Voluntary Association for the Blind at the Wesley Central Hall Fratton Road.
October 18th 1950 - Portsmouth North End Ladies Choir beat a dozen other choirs to win the Gosport Music Festival.
October 19th 1950 - Freddy Randall and his Band play at the Empress ballroom.
October 20th 1950 - Bill Ternent and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom. At the Rock Gardens Pavilion, The Masterpieces Band play for dancing.
October 21st 1950 - Two Bands and the Embassy, Roy Richards Music and the Nelomen.
October 22nd 1950 - Madam Canaway's Concert Party entertain at the Cosham Civic Centre.
October 23rd 1950 - The George Mitchell Glee Club, and Bernard Miles, play at the Theatre Royal. Twelve year old Judy Stanswood of 7 Dursley Cres, Paulsgrove is appeaing in Emile Littler's Panto 'Goody two shoes' at the London Casino.
October 24th 1950 - Dick Whichello and his band play at the Savoy Ballroom.
October 25th 1950 - The Airspeed Singer perform at their Annual Concert at the Duchess of Albany Hall in Edinburgh Road.
October 26th 1950 - The Sunshine Singers perform at the Ebeneza Woman's Own Hall in Twyford Avenue. The Southsea Little Theatre Entertainers begin the winter season by visiting the M1 ward of the infectious deceases hospital and perform excerpts from their forthcoming revue "Show Parade".
October 27th 1950 - Oscar Rabin at the Savoy Ballroom. The Teddy Hank's Band play at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road.
October 28th 1950 - Benny Freedman and his band play at the Savoy Ballroom. The Milton Glee Club celebrate their second year!
October 30th 1950 - The South Parade Pier is temporarily closed because of a dispute between Portsmouth Corporation and the Musicians Union. The Union decided to re-grade the hall from 'B' to 'A' which automatically meant an increase in the bandsmen's wages from 8 gns. to 10gns. The Pier refused the accept the ruling. The Union later agreed to allow their members to continue at the current rate pending arbitration.
October 31st 1950 - The 'Trivolities' stage a variety concert at the Tramway Hall Transport Club at North End.
November 1st 1950 - Evelyn Wilson, 12 year old of 14, Carisbrooke Road is appearing in the new musical play 'Dear Miss Phoebe' at the Pheonix Theatre London.
November 2nd 1950 - The Johnny Dankworth Seven play at the Empress Ballroom. At the Embassy Ballroom on Thursdays, a Radio Talent contest where competitors are heard but not seen.
November 3rd 1950 - Ken Williams and his Quartette play at the South Parade Pier. Vic Lewis and his band play at the Savoy Ballroom. Cyril Rice and his Music play at All Saints Church Hall. Teddy Hanks and his Band play at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road.
November 4th 1950 - Portsmouth Choral Union perform 'Elijah' at the Northern Grammar School, Mayfield Road North End. Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the South Parade Pier. The Portsmouth Philharmonic Society give a concert at the Connaught Drill Hall to over 400 people, by a 60 strong choir with Dale Smith as soloist.
November 6th 1950 - Dr Crock and his Crackpots perform at the Theatre Royal. Jessie Matthews appears in Castle in the Air at the Kings Theatre.
November 8th 1950 - Classes by the English Folk Song and Dance Society commence at Hilsea Modern School.
November 10th 1950 - Humphrey Lyttleton plays at the Savoy Ballroom. Mr. G F Mew of messers Murdocks presented a recital on long playing records at the meeting of the Portsmouth and Southsea Recorded Music Society. Including works by Elgar, Bach and Borodin.
November 11th 1950 - Dick Whichello's Band play at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road for an Armistice Dance, tickets 1/6d.
November 12th 1950 - Miss Irene Selwood and her Spotlights entertained at the Cosham Sunday Evening Club with a record attendance of 97.
November 13th 1950 - Johnny Lyne and his music playing all this week, with Wally Fry and his Collegians at the South Parade Pier.
November 14th 1950 - Cyril Rice's band play at the Transport Hall, North End.
November 15th 1950 - 11 year old Judy Stanswood from 7 Dursley Crescent Cosham started dancing lessons only two and a half years ago, and now as part of the Terry Juveniles is performing in the Royal Command Performance at the London Palladium. She is also rehearsing for one of the country's biggest pantomimes 'Goody Two Shoes' at the London Casino.
November 16th 1950 - Members at a St Simon's Ward, Portsmouth South Conservative Association monthly meeting heard a recital by Miss Florence Brice who also conducted community singing, she was accompanied by Mrs. Klinkert.
November 17th 1950 - Ted Heath and his Band play at the Savoy Ballroom. Teddy Hanks and his Band play the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road. Also there is Kaleidascope lighting two-beat music, plus a beautiful legs contest. The mellow strings of the Kay O'Dee Quartette are heard for dancing at the RAFA Club Cosham old time dance.
November 18th 1950 - Carl Dolmetsche, one of the first virtuoso recorder players gives a concert for the Portsmouth Milton Musical Society, (venue detals not given).
November 19th 1950 - Southsea's Little Theatre Entertainers presented excerpts from their revue 'Show Parade' to the patients of ward M2 of the infectious deseases hospital, Milton. Those involved were Audrey Chamberlain, Anne Harbron, Joan Sparks, Albert Stewart, Edward Martin, with Mrs. M Palls at the piano. All produced by John S Pearce and Mrs A M Pearce.
November 20th 1950 - Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the Savoy Ballroom.
November 21st 1950 - Nearly 200 people attended a social of the St Mary and Guildhall Wards of the Conservative Association with entertainment from Irene White's Juveniles.
November 22nd 1950 - Concert at St Saviours Church Hall Stamshaw, by Miss Gray and her Dancing Troupe.
November 24th 1950 - Geraldo and his Orchestra with Eve Boswell, Nadia Dore and the Geraltones, play at the Savoy Ballroom. Cyril Rice's Band play at All Saints Church Hall.
November 28th 1950 - Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the Savoy Ballroom.
November 29th 1950 - Concert by the combined Orchestras of HM Royal Marines, the chorus of the Portsmouth Bach Society, and the Emsworth and district Choral Society, in the gymnasium of the Royal Naval Barracks, conducted by Major F Vivian Dunn.
November 30th 1950 - The Portsmouth North Branch of the British Legion concert have Madam Lester and her Moonbeams as entertainers.
December 1st 1950 - The Squadronaires play at the Savoy Ballroom. The 'Merry Mascots' are in Concert at the Buckland Congregational Church. At All Saints Church Hall music is provided by Johnny Scott and his Orchestra. Teddy Hanks and his Band now playing every Friday at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road.
December 2nd 1950 - Jimmy Harris and his Orchestra play at Kimbells, Osborne Road. The De Reske Orchestra play at the Oddfellows Hall Fratton Road.
December 3rd 1950 - The last in the series of Municipal Concerts takes place at the Kings Theatre.
December 4th 1950 - At the Kings Theatre, The Fol-De-Rols. At the Theatre Royal Hi Diddle Diddle, and at the Empire, Beauty in Spangles. The "Keep the ball rolling" Company had a busy week entertaining at local hospitals, the cast included Harry Stares, Watts and Clark, Peggy MacKay, Enid Moxley, Norman Vale, Len Sawyer and Frank Bradford.
December 5th 1950 - The "Frivolities" present a Grand Variety Concert at St Mary's Institute, Fratton Road. At the Club Dixie Royal Dockyard Schools Jazz Club, Mr. F Hurlock presented a recital on the history of Graeme Bell's Jazz Band.
December 6th 1950 - The Portsmouth Irish Society present Cyril Rice's Ceilidhe Band at the South Parade Pier.
December 7th 1950 - Paulsgrove Ladies Choir led by Mrs. L Hall with Mrs. Crossland at the piano, sing at a meeting of the Portsmouth North branch of the British Legion.
December 8th 1950 - Graeme Bell and his Australian Jazz Band play at the Savoy Ballroom. Johnny Scott and his Band present, modern jive and oldtime dancing at All Saints Hall.
December 9th 1950 - Portsmouth's Glee Club Christmas Concert at the Wesley Central Hall, Fratton Road with full orchestra and chorus. Alf Hallman and his Orchestra play at South Parade Pier with Wally Fry and his Collegians. At the Drayton Institute, for the St John's Ambulance, dancing to the Kelston Players.
December 11th 1950 - At the Theatre Royal, Anne Shelton and Dick Henderson are the attraction. At the Empire Theatre, Adelaid Hall stars in Harlem to Piccadilly.
December 12th 1950 - The Peter Stuart Trio, comprising Trevor Clark(violin), Peter Stuart(viola), and Gwladys Ro(piano) with Lily Vail(soprano) and Miss Tizzard(piano) give a concert performance to the Milton Glee Club.
December 13th 1950 - Leonard Leslie's Band play at the South parade Pier for the British Rail Staff Dance.
December 14th 1950 - The Portsmouth Players give an old time variety show the Portsmouth Volunteer Association for the Blind at the Wesley Central Hall.
December 15th 1950 - Nat Temple and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom. Teddy Hanks and his Band play at the Forrster's Hall Fratton Road. Johnny Scott and his Band present, modern jive and oldtime dancing at All Siants Hall.
December 16th 1950 - At the South Parade Pier for Leetham's Annual Dance, Jimmie Kerr and his Ampton Orchestra of AFN.
December 19th 1950 - Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the Savoy Ballroom. Leonard Leslie's Old time Orchestra play at the Empress Club.
December 21st 1950 - In the minor hall on South parade Pier, Billy Bennetts Band play. The Portsmouth Jazz Club hold a social in the in their clubroom in Thomas Street, Landport and listen to a local jazz band making their first appearance.
December 22nd 1950 - Teddy Hanks band play at the Forrester's Hall Fratton Road and celebrate their 15th birthday!
December 23rd 1950 - Johnny Lyne and his Music join Wally Fry and his Collegians at the South Parade Pier. Tito Burns and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
December 26th 1950 - Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the South Parade Pier.
December 29th 1950 - Eric Winstone plays at the Savoy Ballroom. At the RAFA Club Cosham, Kay O'Dee and her players with Doris Westaway.
December 31st 1950 - For the first time since January 10th 1941 when Clarence Pier was burnt out by fire bombs, the small ballroom holding 250, is re-opened and holds the first of many private functions.
