January 5th 1946 - Jimmy Harris and his Band play at the Royal Beach Hotel.
 
January 10th 1946 - Geraldo and his Band will play for the Police Victory Ball on South Parade Pier.
 
January 12th 1946 - Bert Osborne and his Band at the South Parade Pier. David Channon and his Orchestra play at the Havant Drill Hall. Portsmouth Male Voice Chior make their first public appearance at the Cosham Civic centre for the Cosham Brotherhood.
 
January 14th 1946 - Cinderella at the Coliseum, including an electric coach and four pretty ponies. At the Milton Church hall, Mrs Jupp's dance! At the Children's Cottage Homes Cosham The 29th Air Scouts return their 'colours' to the District Commissioner, after which they were entertained by Mr. T H Brooks (ventriloquist) and the Jokers Accordion Band. Mrs Eileen McCaffery has resigned her position of Hostess at the Ambassador Ballroom Cosham.
 
January 15th 1946 - Members of the cast from the Kings Theatre panto Dick Whittington entertain at Kimbells for the Eye and Ear Hospital staff dance.
 
January 18th 1946 - Dancing to the 'smartest dressed band in Portsmouth' at St Patrick's Hall Winter Road, but no band name was given!
 
January 19th 1946 - The Savoy Ballroom changes hands, and is bought by Billy Butlin, it will be modernised and re-opened. The British sailors Society took over the Savoy during the war to provide a hostel and cafe for the men of the Royal and Merchant Navies. Negotiations were made by M/s H A Napier, Harding of Purbrook.
 
January 25th 1946 - Drummer Tommy Padmore of 50 Nightingale Road Southsea advertises his services.
 
January 26th 1946 - David Channon's Dance Orchestra and Electric Guitar appear at the Cosham Civic Centre.
 
January 27th 1946 - Musicians Union meeting at the Lido Ballroom with speakers Harry Francis and Van Phillips.
 
January 28th 1946 - Harry Davidson and his Famous Broadcasting Orchestra at the South Parade Pier.
 
January 30th 1946 - Alf Hallman's Band at the Hilsea Lido with hostess Eileen McCaffery. The 'Swingtime' Dance Band from Horndean advertise in the Evening News for work.
 
January 31st 1946 - Princess Elizabeth visits Portsmouth to open the new NAFFI club at Cambridge Junction on the Government House site, music in the ballroom was provided by Geraldo and his Orchestra.
 
February 1st 1946 - At St Patrick's Hall, Winter Road the Paramount Band. 250 children entertained by the Cosham British Legion at the Civic Center, with entertainment from madame Cannaways Juvenile and Adult concert party. Advert in the Evening News requesting a pianist for four nights a week at the "33" Club, 245 London Road.
 
February 4th 1946 - At the Melgrade Hall Fareham, Bert's Swing Band. Alf Hallman advertising his band in the Evening News, from 31 Kensington Road North End. At the Coliseum, Dick Henderson, comedian, and company.
 
February 6th 1946 - At St Faiths Church hall, music from Billy Bennett and his Swing Band.
 
February 7th 1946 - Wally Fry and his Collegians at the South Parade Pier Monday to Saturday also with Barry Wicks, his vibraphonene and the Navy Blues Swingtette on Mondays and Bill Cole and his Clubmen on Saturdays.
 
February 9th 1946 - At the Cosham Civic Centre, James De Costobadie and his Band.
 
February 11th 1946 - Papps and Son announce that their factory has been released from war work and can execute complete overhauls and re-polishing of pianos.
 
February 12th 1946 - The fourth Anniversary of the Southsea Music Club was celebrated with a concert given by Ethel Humpfries (Pianoforte) and Aisleen Standish (Soprano). The death has occurred in a Middlesex hospital of Mr Leonard C Chapman, who as a broadcaster, drummer, vocalist is better known as Jerry De Costa, his parents lived in Copenhagen Street, Portsmouth.
 
February 13th 1946 - At the Tudor Drill Hall Cosham, Southdown Sports and Social club dance to Band of the Blue Star Players.
 
February 14th 1946 - Nancarrows Band at the South Parade Pier.
 
February 13th 1946 - Ad in the Evening News, Barry Wicks and his Navy Blues Band available 'Coniston' Parkstone Avenue, Southsea.
 
February 10th 1946 - The Portsmouth Choral and Orchestral Society perform Handel's Messiah at the Central Hall Fratton. "An outstanding performance"
 
February 17th 1946 - The personnel of the Marine Barracks Eastney were entertained by the Melody Makers Concert Party and Joyce Sellen's Accordion Band.
 
February 21st 1946 - At the South Parade Pier, The Skyrockets Dance Orchestra.
 
February 23rd 1946 - The National Fire Service 10 piece Orchestra play at the Tudor Road Drill Hall Cosham for the Portsmouth Gunner's mates Social Club. Frank Stockers Band at the Cosham Civic Centre.
 
February 25th 1946 - Doris Hare at the Coliseum, together with Connie Clare, a native of Southsea.
 
February 28th 1946 - Portsmouth City Police Victory Ball at South Parade Pier with Geraldo and his Orchestra. 1,200 dancers attend.
 
March 2nd 1946 - Jimmy Harris and his Dance Orchestra broadcast on the BBC from the Oddfellow's Hall, Kingston Road.
 
March 3rd 1946 - More than 1000 children are entertained at the South Parade Pier by Edythe Harrington and her Gang, and Iris Barnes and her juveniles.
 
March 4th 1946 - Dancing to the Five Star Swingers in a Starlight Dance at the Hilsea Lido Ballroom.

March 9th 1946 - The Alma Dance Band at St Joseph's Hall, Copnor. New Orleans Band at the Connaught Drill Hall.
 
March 10th 1946 - The Portsmouth Male Voice Choir perform at the Portsmouth Music Club.
 
March 13th 1946 - Ad in the Evening News;- Melody Makers Dance band now accepting bookings, 14, Frensham Road, Southsea. The Portsmouth Choral and Orchestra Society perform at the Central Hall Fratton various well known classical pieces.
 
March 14th 1946 - At the South Parade Pier, the show of the year, An evening at a Butlin Holiday Camp, plus three bands including Harry Davidson, floor show of acrobats, roller skating, keep fit girls and appearance of Miss 1946. 1,200 attend.
 
March 15th 1946 - Dance at the Cosham Civic Centre in aid of the Hillside and Goodwyns (boys) clubs.
 
March 17th 1946 - The St Cecilia Singers and soloist Reg Wassell at the Cosham Civic Centre.
 
March 19th 1946 - Empress Ballroom hold a 'Special Betty Grable Ball' with a ladies beautiful legs contest.
 
March 20th 1946 - Jill Mansell's Rainbow School of Dancing present a concert at Milton Church Hall.
 
March 23rd 1946 - At the Angerstein Hall, Mr. Suttons Savoy Orpheans give a variety concert. The Portsmouth Little Theatre Society hold a dance at the Royal Beach Hotel with music from Alf Hallman's Band. At St Mary's Institute, the Portsmouth Fabian Society hold a dance with music from Alf Hallman's Band.
 
March 25th 1946 - At the coliseum, 'Naughty Girls of 1946'
 
March 28th 1946 - National Fire Service Non Stop Ball, 8pm to 1am, with Wally Fry and his Collegians and the National fire Service Dance Band.
 
March 29th 1946 - At the Cosham Trades Hall for the Royal Navy Gunners Mates Association, Barry Wicks and his Navy Blues play for dancing.
 
April 1st 1946 - At the Kings Theatre, a Johann Strauss musical play Gay Rosalonda(Fledermaus).
 
April 8th 1946 - Clarkson Rose plus Freddie Merfield and his band at the Coliseum.
 
April 10th 1946 - At the Milton Church Hall, Nancarrow's Band play dance music for the Portsmouth Brand British Legion Dance.
 
April 13th 1946 - Jimmy Harris and his Band, with guest artistes Rita Williams from Variety Band Box, at the Oddfellows Hall broadcast to the nation.

April 20th 1946 - At St Joseph's Hall Copnor, Walter Battell's Band. Alf Hallman's Band at Hilsea Lido for a Fareham Communist Party dance.
 
April 21st 1946 - At South Parade Pier, Ted Heath and his Music with Paul Carpenter, Kenny Baker and Jack Parnell. At the Tudor Crescent drill Hall the "Masterpieces" Orchestra play for dancing.
 
April 22nd 1946 - Ad in the Evening News;- It is proposed to run a South Hampshire Dance Band Contest in conjunction with the Melody Maker. Anyone interested should contact Mr G Paice at the Theatre Royal or Mr G Turner at the Empress ballroom.
 
April 23rd 1946 - St George's Carnival Dance at Cosham Civic Centre with David Channon and his Band. Nancarrow's Band play at Kimbells in aid of the Linen and Woollen Drapers' Institute and Cottage Homes. Ad in the Evening News;- Miss Joan Stoneham gives dancing instruction at Rathgar Hall, 338 London Road North End.

April 30th 1946 - New club opened at Drayton with a dinner and dance, The Carlton Club, in Portsdown Road. Dancing to the Police Band.
 
May 1st 1946 - Concert Party at Reginald Road School with entertainment from Miss Irene White's Artistes entertained.
 
May 3rd 1946 - Visit of Britian's popular Radio Artiste and star if ITMA, Paula Green, to the Empress Ballroom, with a crooning contest for ladies. May 4th 1946 - Vosper Sports and Social Club dance at Hilsea Lido with Bill Cole and his Clubmen playing for dancing.
 
May 5th 1946 - At the South Parade Pier, Big Bill Campbell and his Rocky Mountain Rhythm. A programme of pianoforte, violin, vocal music and elocution was given at the Music Club.
 
May 6th 1946 - A concert by "Portsmouth's latest accordion band" The Northern Variety Accordion band, and supported by the Black and White Follies, accordion solo by Jeff Bennett, at Lyndhurst Road School.
 
May 11th 1946 - A Musical Festival will run at the Portsmouth Cathedral from June 29th to July 6th. Grand Inauguration Ball at the Eastney Barracks with Jimmy Harris and his Band.

May 26th 1946 - Skyrockets Dance Orchestra at the South Parade Pier. The Troopadores Concert Party who entertained members of the services at the NAFFI Cambridge Road Portsmouth have performed more than 1,000 time since the outbreak of war.

June 10th 1946 - At the Conservative Dance Hall Fratton Road, the Tempo Band play for dancing.

June 21st 1946 - At Kimbells, Bill Cole and his Clubmen play for dancing with famous radio vocalist Benny Lee arranged by the National Radio Club.

July 4th 1946 - Ivan Veck's music shop in Albert road is broken into overnight. An £80 saxophone and £40 trumpet are stolen.

July 13th 1946 - Bill Cole and his Clubmen at St Mary's Institute. Police Constable T E Nash of 124 Tangier Road Copnor, is invalided from the City force. During the war he formed and organised the Portsmouth City Police Band.
 
July 14th 1946 - At the South Parade Pier the Skyrockets Dance Orchestra.

September 1st 1946 - Harry Parry and his Radio Rhythm Band at the South Parade Pier. The National Fire Service Band play at Southsea Common Bandstand.
 
September 4th 1946 - Mrs. Rogers matinee dances begin again at the Unity Hall Arundel Street.
 
September 7th 1946 - At the RA Drill Hall, Pembroke Road, music from Ronnie Moore's Rhythmics.
 
September 8th 1946 - Leslie Douglas and his Dance Orchestra at the South Parade Pier. At the NAFFI Club at Cambridge Junction, The Black and Whites Show company entertained with bright variety entertainment of nigger minstrels and cowboys.
 
September 9th 1946 - Iris Barnes, holder of 6 All England Championships reopens her dancing academy at 16 Helena Road Southsea.
 
September 10th 1946 - At St Colman's Social Club, Cyril Price's Band play for dancing.
 
September 15th 1946 - At the South Parade Pier, Carl Barriteau and his Orchestra.
 
September 16th 1946 - At "Tony's Ballroom" above Trades Club at Cosham, Tony, from the Odeon, an his Ballroom Orchestra with cabaret by Miss Mary Tonkin and hostess Eileen McCaffery, play nightly for dancing. At the Odeon Ballroom Cosham, Wally Gresham and his Dance Orchestra.
 
September 17th 1946 - Portsmouth Referees Society dance at the Transport Hall, Stubbington Ave with Nancarrow's Dance Band
 
September 19th 1946 - Charles Hurdle, landlord of the Eastney, Fort Cumberland Tavern gets a license granted for a string trio with vocalist for weekdays and Sundays.
 
September 21st 1946 - Bill Cole and his Clubmen play for dancing at St Mary's Institute for the Elwood Social Club. Six local girls were the dancers in the recent success "Showtime" on South Parade Pier, they were Myra Weston, Diana Satow Joy Doncaster, Patricia Smith, Monika Cheek and Joan Skinner and were all pupils of Mary Tonkin.
 
September 22nd 1946 - The George Evans Orchestra play for dancing on South Parade Pier.
 
September 25th 1946 - At the Central Hall, Fratton, Alfredo Campoli, the celebrated violinist, The Portsmouth Glee Club with full chorus and orchestra.
 
September 27th 1946 - At Cosham's Tudor Crescent Drill Hall Nancarrow's Dance Orchestra play for dancing.
 
September 28th 1946 - Grand Ball at Kimbells, Clifton Ballroom with eight bands.
 
September 29th 1946 - At the South Parade Pier, the famous Skyrockets Dance Orchestra play for dancing.

October 1st 1946 - Ad in the Evening News, Musicians Union;- Please note new branch Secretary, Violette Nash 124 Tangier Road, Portsmouth, tele 5290. The Odds and Ends, led by Stan Lewis, perform at Fort Southwick. A United nations Association Ball is held at Kimbells Osborne Road, with advice on sequence dancing given by Victor Sylvester.
 
October 3rd 1946 - Nancarrow's band play at the Co-operative Hall Fratton Road. In the Evening News Social Functions column, four ads for dance bands looking for work.
 
October 4th 1946 - Major R Bullin presided at the AGM of the Folk Dance and Song Society at Hilsea Modern School. 'Good Listening' of Elm Grove offer radios for rent.
 
October 6th 1946 - A Municipal concert at the Kings Theatre with the Southern Philharmonic Orchestra.
 
October 12th 1946 - Alf Hallman and his Band at the Tudor Crescent, Drill Hall, Cosham for a Sunshine Holiday Camp Dance.

November 3rd 1946 - Sunday concert by Cyril Rice and his Accordion Band with soloists, Sid Pimm and Ron Glover.
 
November 4th 1946 - At the Kings Theatre, Bruce Trent and Cherry Lind in The Student Prince. At the Coliseum, Al Shaw and his Blue Hawaiians.
 
November 6th 1946 - At South Parade Pier, Ronnie Munro and his Broadcasting Orchestra. Ad in the Evening News;- Announcing the Dela Wares 3-6 piece Dance Band featuring individual awardist of MM contests, apply manager Mr. T Piggott, 45 Carnarvon Road, Copnor.
 
November 8th 1946 - At St Patrick's hall Winter Road, The Paramount Band and cabaret and exhibition tango by artistes from the Mirthquakes Concert Party.
 
November 11th 1946 - At the South Parade Pier, Eric Winstone and his famous Broadcasting Orchestra for the annual naval Christmas ball presented by the Portsmouth Gunnery Instructors Association. At the Coliseum, Georgie Wood and Dolly Harmer, radios 'Mother and son'. The Carl Rosa opera returns to the Kings Theatre with a daily selection of different operas.

November 15th 1946 - At the Tudor Crescent Drill Hall, Alf Hallman and his Dance Orchestra play for the Southdown Sports Club. Nancarrows Band at St Saviours Hall, Strode Road for the North Portsmouth Branch British Legion.
 
November 16th 1946 - At the Tudor Crescent Drill hall, Spence Brown and the All Star Orchestra plus BBC vocalist Pat Sinclair, also Bill Cole.
 
November 18th 1946 - Bob and Alf Pearson at the Coliseum. Ad in the Evening News;- Pervin's Popular Players Dance Band available for engagements, 309 Twyford Ave, Stamshaw.
 
November 27th 1946 - Joe Loss and his Orchestra at South Parade Pier for Portsmouth NALGO.
 
November 22nd 1946 - Nancarrows Band at the Tudor Crescent Drill Hall Cosham. Cyril Rice's Band at St Joseph Hall Copnor.
 
November 23rd 1946 - At the Cosham Civic Center, The Embassy Orchestra play for dancing.
 
December 18th 1946 - Portsmouth Glee Club present Handel's Messiah at the Central Hall Fratton.
 
December 20th 1946 - The Gay Cameos entertain staff and patients at the Langstone Sanatorium. Ad in the Evening News;- New Orleans Dance band available for engagements, 18 Fernhurst Road Southsea. tele 1542. The 'Non-stops' Concert Party perform at the NAAFI Cambridge Junction
 
December 21st 1946 - Tony and his Dance Orchestra play at Girls Southern Grammar School at the old Nortonians Grand Christmas dance. Ad in the Evening News;- Midnight Follies Dance Band available from Dec 27th tele 5546
 
December 24th 1946 - Southsea's newest Ballroom, The Embassy, grand opening ball, with Harry Roy Ragamuffins, leader Eddie Edwards with Dorothy Clinton.
 
December 26th 1946 - At the Kings Theatre, Cinderella.
 
December 27th 1946 - Alf Hallman and his Dance Orchestra at the Tudor Drill Hall Cosham for the Southdown Sports Club dance
 
December 29th 1946 - Portsmouth's Savoy Orpheans Concert Party, composed mainly of children perform at the NAAFI Club in Cambridge Junction.
 
December 30th 1946 - At the Coliseum, Hutch, plus Hal Swain and his Swing Sisters.
 
December 31st 1946 - At the Embassy, Harry Roy and his Tiger Ragamuffins. The Sound Entertainment Dance Orchestra at a Catholic Carnival at St Faith Hall Havant. At the Electricity Club, Dovercourt Road, Cosham the Melody Makers Dance Band play for dancing. At the Hilsea Garrison Church Hall, the Legionnaires Dance Band play on behalf of the Copnor British Legion. Portsmouth City are to appoint a music advisor at a salary of £625 rising to £700 plus a living bonus and travel allowance. Dancing at All saints Hall Portsmouth to the Gay Ninety's.
