The Council of the Borough of Portsmouth (1859)


There were 4 bye-elections in 1859. On November 1st one third (14) of the Councillors retired and submitted themselves for re-election. 4 Councillors lost their seats. On November 9th, 6 Aldermen retired and were re-elected. In addition a further Alderman was elected to replace Alderman Bachelor. There was an election for Mayor.
