January 3rd 1958 - Sid Phillips and his Band play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
January 4th 1958 - Dancing to Ronnie Keene and his Orchestra and Dean Maddison Jazz Group at the South Parade Pier. Members of the St Mary's Women's Co-operative Guild, otherwise known as the 'Crazy Gang' all old age pensioners dressed in jeans, gay shirts and comic hats play skiffle at John Pounds Church followed by tea and community singing.
 
January 6th 1958 - Don Rendell top tenor sax man at the Sunshine Inn for the Farlington Modern Jazz Club. He is a member of the Ted Heath Orchestra and toured the UK with Stan Kenton in 1956.
 
January 8th 1958 - Skiffle contest finals with seven groups on South Parade Pier for a £10.0.0d prize is won by The Checkers Skiffle Group.
 
January 10th 1958 - Eric Winstone and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
January 11th 1958 - Dancing to Ronnie Keene and his Orchestra and Dean Maddison Jazz Group at the South Parade Pier.
 
January 13th 1958 - 300 blind people were entertained by members of the Portsmouth Players, and Bill Cole at the piano. Senorita Elise Granados return to the Festival Bar playing the £3,000 Hammond Organ.
 
January 15th 1958 - Chas McDevitt and his Skiffle group, with Shirley Jackson, appear at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
January 17th 1958 - Ken Mackintosh and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.

January 27th 1958 - 200 blind people attended a social at the Oddfellows Hall, with music from the Leopards Skiffle Group from Hambledon, also Portsmouth Players and Bill Cole.
 
January 31st 1958 - Johnny Dankworth and his Orchestra with Cleo Laine, play at the Savoy ballroom.
 
February 1st 1958 - Ronnie Keene's Orchestra spell at the South Parade Pier ends, plus the Modern Jazzmen in the minor hall.
 
February 2nd 1958 - Southsea born, former Portsmouth High School pupil, soloist Mary Valentine plays pianoforte with the Southern Philharmonic Orchestra at the Kings Theatre for the opening concert of the spring season.
 
February 3rd 1958 - Chas McDivett Skiffle Group, and the Four Jacks from HMS Albion, play at the Empire Theatre. New band at South Parade Pier, Billy Duncan and his Dance Music. Tubby Hayes play at the Sunshine Inn, Farlington.
 
February 4th 1958 - 350 young people dance to the music of the Mike Glover Skiffle Group and Vic Trois and his Boys, at St Marks Church Hall, North End.
 
February 5th 1958 - Organ Recital at All Saints Church by Winchester Cathedral organist Alwyn Surplice.
 
February 7th 1958 - Cy Laurie and his Jazzmen play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
February 8th 1958 - The New Orpheans Band play at the RAFA Club, Cosham. At John Pound's Church, John Durrant and Dawn Holder at two pianos in concert. The Portsmouth Teachers String Orchestra, conductor Reginald Wassell, give a concert at the Christ Church Hall Portsdown.
 
February 9th 1958 - The Nomads Skiffle Group and singer Maxine Daniels appear at the Empire Theatre. Chas McDivett Skiffle Group, and the Four Jacks from HMS Albion, play at the Empire Theartre.
 
February 10th 1958 - "Disc Doubles" at the Empire Theatre include Elvis, Mario Lanza, Frankie Vaughn, Ruby Murray, Liberace and Johnnie Ray.

March 2nd 1958 - Joan Hammond sings at the Kings Theatre.
 
March 6th 1958 - British Railways Staff Dance at South Parade Pier with The Southern Counties Orchestra and Billy Duncan and his Dance Music.
 
March 7th 1958 - Ray Ellington and his Quartet play at the Savoy Ballroom. Rock'n'roll to the Mick Glover Group at Caesars Dance Club, 134 London Road (rear of Wains).
 
March 8th 1958 - Recital at John Pound's Church with Jeffery Taylor baritone, Ernest Barr violin, John Durrant piano. At South Parade Pier, Billy Duncan and his Dance Music are joined by Dean Maddison's Jazz Group. The Southsea Silver Band gain 3rd place Southern Counties Area Band Championships at St Pancras Town Hall, London.
 
March 9th 1958 - "The Big Beat", with Fats Domino is shown at the Gaumont, Portsmouth.
 
March 10th 1958 - At the Empire Theatre the Portsmouth Grand Opera Company present die Fledermaus.
 
March 11th 1958 - "Jailhouse Rock" is shown at the Essoldo, Cosham and Southsea and the Savoy cinema Portsmouth. Vic Abbott and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
March 14th 1958 - The Betty Smith Quintet and the Dill Jones Trio play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
March 15th 1958 - Billy Duncan and his Dance Band are joined by Dougie Wheeler's Band at the South Parade Pier.
 
March 16th 1958 - "Sing boy sing" with Tommy Sands is shown at the Troxy, Fratton Road.
 
March 17th 1958 - Farewell appearance of Mike Glover and his Skiffle Group at the Savoy Ballroom. Tommy Whittle play at the Sunshine Inn Farlington backed by George Austin guitar, Chiz Bishop piano, Ray Lott bass, Alan Greer drums. Also playing was the Mike Treend trio with Sammy Seall bass, Mike Kaye drums.
 
March 21st 1958 - Eric Delaney and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
March 22nd 1958 - The Portsmouth Choral Union, with orchestra leader Ernest Barr and conductor Bertram Bradshaw, one of the soloists is Reginald Wassell, perform Handel's Messiah, it's 64th year of this work, at the Wesley Central Hall, Fratton Road.
 
March 24th 1958 - The Leopards Skiffle Group play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
March 26th 1958 - Vic Abbott and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
March 27th 1958 - More than 300 attend a Jazz Band Ball in conjunction with the Downbeat Jazz Club, with Mike Treend's Jazzmen, Mike Treend, Denny Puttman, Sammy Seall bass, Doug Wheeler trombone, Brian Taylor alto/clarinet, Tony Hart drums and Ronnie Coe and the Coehorts, play at Lee Tower. At the Sunshine Inn, the resident musicians now to be known as the Sunshine Jazzmen, personnel is Red Cresdee clarinet, Chiz Bishop piano and Mike Kay drums with Bill Burkett trumpet, Ray Lott bass and a trombonist standing in for Puttman, Seall and Wheeler who will be at Lee Tower.
 
March 28th 1958 - Ken Mackintosh and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom. The Club Quintet play at the Rock Gardens Pavilion.
 
March 29th 1958 - Dean Maddison's Jazz Group play all week with Billy Duncan and his Dance Music at South Parade Pier.
 
March 30th 1958 - The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra play at the Kings Theatre.
 
April 2nd 1958 - Brian Wilson and his Jazz Quintet play at the Richmond Hotel, Lake Road, every Wednesday.
 
April 3rd 1958 - The Tia Juana Jazz Band play at the Savoy Ballroom. Reg Bannistra, drummer and bandleader, is re-elected Chairman of the South East District Council of the Musician's Union.
 
April 4th 1958 - The Portsmouth Glee Club perform a concert at the Wesley Central Hall, with soloists Isobel Baillie soprano, Reginald Wassell baritone and Stanley Mathews organ. At South Parade Pier, concert by pianist Roy Stevens, singer Lucille Graham, Carl Rosa Opera baritone Evan Thomas with Donald Thorne at the Wonder Organ.
 
April 7th 1958 - Edna Savage sings at the Kings Theatre with Marty Wilde and his Wild-Cats, plus Little Johnny and the Teenagers. Roy Richards and His Mayfair Music play at the Edelweiss Restaurant, at the Solent Hotel, South Parade.
 
April 8th 1958 - The Portsmouth Music Festival runs until April 19th at Kingston Modern School for Girls. Heat winners at Ricky's are the Rolling Ramblers.
 
April 10th 1958 - Vic Lewis and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom. Madame Lester's Moonbeams perform at St Peter's Hall.
 
April 11th 1958 - Rock 'as you like it' to the "Live Five" at Caesars Dance Club rear of Wains, North End.
 
April 12th 1958 - Organist Bernard glover play in the LDB Cafeteria in Commercial Road.
 
April 13th 1958 - "The Duke Wore Jeans" starring Tommy Steele is shown at the Savoy cinema and the Essoldo Southsea and Cosham.
 
April 14th 1958 - The Carl Rosa Opera perform at the Kings Theatre. The Checkers Skiffle Group play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
April 15th 1958 - The Melody Four, girls from Portsmouth, Joyce Dunphy 16, Bobbie Rogers 17, Maureen Rogers (not sisters) 16 and June Martin 16 appear in BBC auditions on South Parade Pier, also Wendy Mercer 19, from the Cathedral Choir and accordionist Adrian Slade.
 
April 17th 1958 - Ron Rendell's Sextette play at the Savoy Ballroom. British Railways Staff dance at South Parade Pier with the De Reske Orchestra and Billy Duncan and his Dance Music.
 
April 18th 1958 - The Rolling Ramblers play at Ricky's.
 
April 19th 1958 - The Circle Club, at Kimbells Corner House, presents a 'Jazz Jamboree'.
 
Aprtil 21st 1958 - Portsmouth's Methodist Eisteddfod opens at Copnor Methodist Church Hall with 460 entries.
 
April 23rd 1958 - A celebrity concert at Kimbells, Osborne Road arranged by Florence Graves for the Portsmouth Musical competition Festival includes Margaret Moncrief piano. Brian Wilson and his Jazz Quintet play at the Richmond Hotel, Lake Road. The Portsdown Music Guild at Christ Church on Portsdown Hill, brought it's ninth season of concerts to a close. Vic Abbott and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
April 24th 1958 - Eddie Earworth's Jazz Group play at the Richmond Hotel. Organist Bernard glover play in the LDB Cafeteria in Commercial Road.
 
April 25th 1958 - Don Lang and his Frantic Five play at the Savoy Ballroom. The Southsea Silver Band in concert at the Globe Theatre, Royal Marine Barracks, Eastney. The new four manual organ at the Guildhall will cost upward of £15,000.

May 10th 1958 - The Southsea Jewish Club hold their first charity dance at Kimbells with cabaret from Mavis Freeman, and Bobby Collins.
 
May 12th 1958 - "Simply Heavenly", an all negro musical is staged at the Kings Theatre. Don Rendell and the Arthur Ward Quintet play at Ricky's Club. Sid Harris presents a new jazz group, including George Austin guitar and Mike Treend piano, at the Richmond Hotel.
 
May 14th 1958 - George Austin and his jazz men play at the Richmond Hotel every Wednesday.
 
May 16th 1958 - Stan Mathews and his Orchestra play at the Rock Gardens Pavilion for the Dairy Maid of Portsmouth Ball. Dr Crock and the Crackpots play at the Savoy Ballroom. The first of the Schools Festival Concerts is conducted by Reginald Wassell. The Peter Madsen Band play at Hilsea Lido for B. O. Morris Social Club.

September 21st 1958 - The Portsmouth Ladies Choir conducted by Miss Florence Greaves sing on South Parade Pier. They number 53 and are winners two years running of the W T Sayer Cup in the Portsmouth Music festival.

September 23rd 1958 - Miss Florence Greaves has arranged a musical evening at Cathedral House, Portsmouth with herself, John Durrant, Ernest Barr and others performing. Vic Abbott and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
September 24th 1958 - At the Troxy cinema live on stage for one night only, Marty Wilde, The John Barry Seven, Vince Eager and his Vagabonds and The Sophisticats. The Alpha Jazzmen play at the Cobden Arms, Arundel Street.
 
September 26th 1958 - Ted Heath and his Music play at the Savoy Ballroom. The Ace Dance Band play at the RAFA Club Cosham.
 
September 27th 1958 - The first recital of the season was at John Pounds Church with performances by John Durrant, Ernest Barr and others.
 
September 29th 1958 - Ronnie Ross (baritone sax) plays at the Sunshine Inn, Farlington. For the next six days 'Musical Marie' the 17 stone Manchester housewife will play the piano nonstop for 132 hours. Mick Mitchell and his Music play all week on South Parade Pier.
 
October 1st 1958 - The Crescent City Jazzband play at the Cobden Arms, Arundle Street. The Portsmouth Music Club meet at the Lecture Room of the Central Library.
 
October 3rd 1958 - Jazz from John Urry's Tradmen, plus the Pat Nelson Group at the Moose Hall, St Ronan's Road. Tony Kinsey and his Quintet play at the Savor Ballroom.
 
October 6th 1958 - The Portsmouth Group Royal Marines Band play on South Parade Pier. The Mike Treend Quartet play at the Sunshine Inn, Farlington.
 
October 7th 1958 - The Milton Glee club give a concert at the Eastney Central Hall.

December 5th 1958 - The Portsmouth Players present "Christmas Pie" at the Wesley Central Hall. Vic Lewis and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
December 6th 1958 - The Broadway Trio play at St Peter and Paul Church Hall, Cosham. The Southern Counties Orchestra play at the Conservative Club, Fratton Road.
 
December 8th 1958 - At the Theatre Royal, R B Cooper presents the world premiere of "Teddy Boys Picnic" with Hector Ross, Allan Barnes and Joan Cooper. The Rockin' Leopard Seven play at the Savoy Ballroom. The Portsmouth Music Lovers Club meet and celebrate their 300th meeting. Robin Cooper runs jazz nights at the Moose Hall on a Friday and now also on a Monday night in competition with the Farlington Modern Jazz Club. His resident Monday band are the Brian Wilson Quintet, with Brian on tenor, Tony Bliss trumpet, Chiz Bishop piano, Don Castle bass and John Urry drums.

December 17th 1958 - The Crescent City Jazzband play for the Cobden Arms. The Portsmouth Glee Club give a Christmas concert at the Wesley Central Hall with Max Jaffa violin, Reginald Kilbey cello, Jack Byfield piano, and the Glee Club Choir conducted by Harold Hall.
 
December 19th 1958 - Rock-a-cha-cha with the fabulous Hi Fi's at the RAFA Club Cosham, admission 2/6d. Eric Winstone and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom. John Urry's Tradmen and the Satellites Skiffle Group play at Moose Hall.
 
December 20th 1958 - The Portsmouth Choral Union sing Carols and Christmas music at the Wesley Central Hall for the 19th year.
 
December 22nd 1958 - Clarinetist Vic Ash plays with the Mike Treend Quartet at the Sunshine Inn, Farlington. The Milton Glee Club sing Carols and Christmas music at the Eastney Central Hall.
