Mr. William John Pugsley, manager and founder of the Southsea Silver Band, dies on his 57th birthday at his home 81, Havant Road, North End. At a Co-operative Catering Staff Party at the Victory Hall, Fratton, entertainment was provided by 'The Co-op Teennies'.

March 24th 1954 - The Music Society of the Southern Grammar School for Boys give a concert at the Wesley Central Hall.

Two quartets from the City of Portsmouth Fire Brigade Band gain 1st and 3rd place in a contest held in Reading. The High Curley Stompers play at the Savoy Ballroom.

September 6th 1954 - The Empress re-opens with a new floor and Dave Shand and his Broadcasting Orchestra and Gene Mayo and his Orchestra. The Portchester Singers, with solos from Ivy Pryor and Gladys Sherrington, and pianist Irene Colwell, conducted by Mrs Doris Matthews sing to the Portsmouth North Branch of the Old Age Pensioners Association. Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the Savoy Ballroom together with Roy Richards and his Mayfair Orchestra. Monday's Old Time Dance club at the Liberal Club in Lake Road is transferred to the Crystal Palace Club room on Fratton Bridge.

November 23rd 1954 - The Broadway Orchestra play at the Hilsea Lido.
 
November 26th 1954 - Johnny Gray and his Band of the Day play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
November 27th 1954 - Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the South Parade Pier with Wally Fry and his Collegians.
 
November 29th 1954 - John Hanson appears in The Desert Song at the Kings Theatre. Ad in the Evening News; Gordon Banner and the Atomic Band with his £3,600 Ballroom Organ seeking work from 14, Grove Road Southsea. Johnny Lyne and his Music play with Benny Freedman's band at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
December 1st 1954 - The Portsmouth Music Lovers Club hear a recital by the St Cecelia Singers including Reginald and Dorothy Wassell.
 
December 2nd 1954 - The British Rail Staff Dance at the South Parade Pier had the De Reske Orchestra and Reg Bannistra and his Orchestra playing for dancing.
 
December 3rd 1954 - Johnny Dankworth and his Orchestra play at the the Savoy Ballroom.
 
December 4th 1954 - the Modernaires play at the Portsmouth Community Centre. Reg Bannistra and his Orchestra play on South Parade Pier with Wally Fry and his Collegians.
 
December 6th 1954 - Nat Gonella plays at the Empire Theatre all week.
 
December 10th 1954 - Ted Heath and his Music play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
December 11th 1954 - The Portsmouth Glee Club present a Christmas concert with Max Jaffa, Gwen Catley, Reginald Kilbey and Jack Byfield at the Wesley Central Hall, Fratton Road. Reg Bannistra and his Orchestra play on South Parade Pier with Wally Fry and his Collegians.
 
December 13th 1954 - Ted Ambrose and his Jazzmen play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
December 14th 1954 - John Courtney and his Melody Quintette play at the Co-operative Hall, Fratton Road.
 
December 17th 1954 - Ken Mackintoch and his Orchestra play at the Savoy Ballroom. Ad in the Evening News;- Sunday evening is 'melody evening' at the Eastney Tavern, Cromwell Road, Eastney.
 
December 18th 1954 - Johnny Lyne and his Music play at the South Parade Pier with Wally Fry and his Collegians.
 
December 24th 1954 - Norman Burns and his Band play at the Savoy Ballroom with resident Benny Freedman Orchestra.
 
December 26th 1954 - Dave Shand and his Band play at the Savoy Ballroom.
 
December 28th 1954 - The Broadway Orchestra play at the Rock Gardens Pavilion.
 
December 31st 1954 - The High Curley Stompers join Benny Freedman and his Orchestra at the Savoy Ballroom. Lani Kris and his Hawaiian Whispering Strings play at the Bastion Road House Hilsea.
